DAY SCHEDULE
Before we first started to use the day schedule we analyzed the virtues of using a day schedule over regular Monday-Friday schedule. It is time to reflect again on this topic.
Our analysis is composed of counting the number of week days and counting the number of Day 1, Day 2 etc. in 2013-14 school year in the case that we have snow days and in the case if we did not have any snow days. The claim is that there is loss of instruction for some days (due to how the in-services, records days, holidays or snow days fall) more than other days. So we asked the question of how many Mondays, Tuesdays etc. we had in that school year and how many such days we would have had if we did not have any snow days. Also, how many Day 1, Day 2 etc. we would have had with and without snow days.
Here is the chart that shows how many Mondays, Tuesdays etc. we have last year with and without snow days:

By design, we scheduled 7 more Tuesdays than Mondays even without snow days. If a child has Art on Monday, he/she would have had almost 2 months worth of Art instruction less than a child who had it on a Tuesday. With the snow days, a similar gap still persists. What would have happened if we had the Day 1, Day 2 schedule instead? Here it is:
Clearly day schedule evens out the number of instructional days with or without snow days. This is why despite all the headache we are going through, it is worth giving a try.
