Parking Expansion Plans
It is not a secret to anyone in the YSCP community that we need more parking spaces. As I shared earlier we have the plans to expand our parking lot by adding 20 more spots to have 60 parking spots. This addition will help our current situation tremendously as several staff members currently park at the church and have to walk to school in the morning. This is not a long walk on a good day but when we are trying to report to school on time it adds to the morning stress. When the bad weather hits this will become a more cumbersome accommodation we have to make.
Our plan to add 20 parking spots was approved by the Planning Commission on September 28, 2015 and by the Ferguson Township Supervisors on October 5, 2015. This means that we will have the building permit by October 20, 2015.
We have bid this project in the summer and awarded it to a company with the completion date for the end of November. During the review and approval of the project, additional work was added to the final specifications of the project. With the additional requirements mandated by Ferguson Township, our contractor increased the total cost of the project to a certain extent that the school needs to reconsider biding the additional parking lot construction again. On top of this, the company did not guarantee the work to be completed by the Thanksgiving holiday which is when we hoped to have it done. This is mainly because of the amount of the additional jobs added and the weather requirements to be able to put asphalt on the ground. The company could only promise to complete the job by summer of 2016.
When we presented this to our Board at our regular board meeting on October 2, 2015, our Board decided to rebid the project. We will rebid the project with the full specifications. What does all of this mean for us? This means we will have to endure the parking difficulties until the summer of 2016 like we did until now. I apologize for how it all turned out. This situation is difficult and we would have wished for an earlier completion of this expansion.
