​How a new art installation promotes acceptance and inclusivity at State College school

Students at Young Scholars unveiled a permanent, movable art installation they helped to create on Friday in an assembly centered on acceptance and inclusion.

Twenty-four students from kindergarten to eighth grade created canvases that can be rearranged and moved to make different shapes and patterns.

​Kindergartners at local school take on community projects, give back to State College community

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) — Kindergartners at a local school are finding ways to give back to their community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Led by their teacher Natalie Wortman, kindergartners at Young Scholars of State College took on several projects, including raising money for animals at Centre County PAWS in September.

​With COVID-19 on the rise, Young Scholars is the latest Centre County school to move to remote learning

Another Centre County school has announced plans to operate virtually, following a rise in COVID-19 cases and predicted increases.
The Young Scholars of Central Pennsylvania Charter School will opt for a fully remote instruction model from Nov. 23-Dec. 11, CEO and Principal Levent Kaya wrote in an email Friday. The school has reported a total of six COVID-19 cases this year; half were confirmed within the last week.

​First known COVID-19 case confirmed in a Centre County school this fall

The first known COVID-19 case in a Centre County school has been confirmed.
A student in the Young Scholars of Central Pennsylvania Charter School has contracted the coronavirus, CEO and Principal Levent Kaya confirmed Thursday. The school, which is operating remotely this week, was notified of the case Wednesday.

KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS CELEBRATE LITERACY

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) — Kindergarten students at the Young Scholars of Central Pennsylvania are spending the month of February celebrating the gift of literacy. WTAJ’s Morgan Koziar was invited to read to Ms. Wortman’s class earlier this morning. She had the opportunity to read three different books to the class and talk about the ways reading has helped her in her career.
